Backyard Chicken Ranching

This class starts with the idea of owning and raising chickens and takes you on a journey through the bird selection process.  Topics include:  preparing for your first flock, protecting your flock from predators and illness, and watching your flock multiply.  Material Fee of $10 paid to instructor at class.

Beginning Beekeeping

This course will cover the basics needed to get started in the exciting hobby of beekeeping.  Learn how to assemble hive equipment, use a smoker and veil, acquire bees and install them in a hive, inspect and manage a hive throughout the seasons and produce honey.  Material Fee of $10 paid to instructor at class.

Grow Your Own Organic Garden

Learn the basics of soil science, how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. Making and using compost, principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures and manage nutrients in the garden will be covered. Discover how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and common insect pests and methods of natural insect control.
